A Vision For Worship In Our Homes

Back At Miami University

I remember the day when Passion came to town. I was in my last year of college. One of my friends asked if I had seen the RV with a big 268 on the side. This turned into a get together with the 2 representatives who were traveling with Passion Ministries. They shared how there was a gathering where 50,000 college students would come together in TN for a weekend of worship, prayer, and fasting. I was SO excited! To be with other college students, crying out for revival, a call to holiness and repentance, a vision for so much more than the current college culture had to offer. I joined the cause and we started to recruit young people to join the journey.

I had not previously heard of music coming from Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall, David Crowder Band, Steve Fee, or Christy Nockels. But in preparation to join people from all over the nation, on that field in TN, I bought every CD I could get my hands on. This music changed my life! It wasn’t just the music, it was the vision- The call to be a “268 Generation”. Ones who would declare and live out Isaiah 26:8,

Yes Lord, walking in the way of Your truth, we wait for You; Your Name and Your Renown are the desire of our souls.”

The songs were about who God is.

They were about His greatness and majesty, His heart for His people, and a call to turn from our own ways and to respond to His. I would listen to this music while falling asleep at night and early in the morning. My mind and my heart were being filled with truth and life in unprecedented ways. I will be forever grateful for the gathering that took place in Memphis, TN. and later the gathering in Sherman, TX.

“On May 20, 2000, tens of thousands of college students gathered from across the nation and around the globe for a sacred assembly simply known as OneDay. Converging on the vast expanse of Shelby Farms, just outside of Memphis, TN, they came to pray, seeking the face of God for awakening in this generation. Yet, they came not just to pray prayers, but to offer their lives as worship before the living God, yielding gladly to the all-consuming purpose of making the name and renown of Jesus Christ known throughout the earth.” (You can see the live recording on You Tube OneDay Live)

I share this experience because I have a desire to cast the same vision to our children.

To call them to be a 268 Generation. What connected me to this vision, and all of these years later, still does- is the power of song. When we sing there is a shift in the atmosphere of our home. When we listen to music that is all about HIM, there is a shift in the atmosphere of our hearts.

Let’s fill our homes with praise! Let’s find music that speaks to who HE is and who HE says we are. We have the capacity as parents to give our kids space for encounter. The song is a key to unlock His purposes in our homes!

What about you?  Is an atmosphere of singing hard to cultivate?  What are your biggest hang-ups?  Really, leave your comment below and we can join in prayer and encouraging one another.

Words can hardly express how much I appreciate your teaching at our Sunday school class and your sharing of your notes, and the most important, your encouragement.”

After watching your video, I started praying with my wife again.  We’re doing it and are encouraged to refresh our vision and prayer life together.

This ministry is so needed in the body of Christ.  It’s so practical and doable, but I’ve not seen anything like it.

Our assignment is to envision, empower, equip and encourage families to foster cultures of prayer in their homes.
We’re focusing on empowering families one by one. In everything we do, we’re targeting the shift that goes from not doing it to realizing walking in the desired destiny for your home.
We’d love to start the conversation and learn how we could link arms with you to see families envisioned and empowered to carry out family worship in their homes.
